Kitchens are an area in people’s homes that get a very large amount of time spent in them. The layout of a kitchen should be functional and improve the quality of a families day-to-day life, depending on their lifestyle and cooking style. There are multiple ways to design a kitchen, but here are the five most popular layouts:

Essential Work Triangle
Zone Design
Galley
L-Shape
U-Shape

The three points of your essential work triangle are most commonly the refrigerator, range and sink. You want to think about the steps you use when cooking, and what’s the most efficient way to design your kitchen based on those steps. For example: I take my food out of the refrigerator, walk over to the sink to wash it, then walk to the stove to cook. I most often go between the sink and the stove so it makes sense to place those two appliances closer together.
Zone design focuses on the cooking, eating, cleaning and working zones. Or whatever zones you may need to use in your kitchen. What you will have is a separate work station for each zone. This design helps in the functionality of your kitchen as well as avoiding cross-contamination.
A galley kitchen has two straight runs on either side, typically with the range on one side and the sink on the other. Traffic flow tends to get a little tricky in these kitchens since there is really only one main walkway.

An L-shaped kitchen is very functional for cooking because it forces traffic out of the cooking area and onto the other side of the peninsula or island. This is a great design for families and entertaining.

A U-Shaped kitchen developed from the growing need for more storage space. It is simple, functional and has ample amounts of storage.

Mix & Match: Finishes, Styles, Colors

A space tends to get either bland or over-whelming when there is too much of one element being used. Have fun with your room – mix and match your finishes, styles, shapes and colors. Design is all about blending unity and variety. Add interest to a back splash by mixing materials; there are a lot of products available that use glass tile with stone to play with color and texture. It is also fun to mix the colors of your cabinetry; really make an island pop by using a different stain or color. The same can be done with counter-tops; it’s not uncommon to see a different material or colors used on the island top. Changing shapes can also off-set the squareness of a kitchen; add an arc to your island or put a circular medallion above your range. Incorporating one or many of these elements will help bring your space to life and add personality to any room.

Vetrazzo: Recycled Glass Surfaces

“Vetrazzo begins with you. When you dispose of your glass bottles into your curbside recycling bin, it ends up at a facility where it is processed by color and glass type.
Once sorted, it’s crushed and packaged for companies like Vetrazzo to purchase for reuse. We look for interesting colors and also source from post-industrial glass sources and demolition sites to get an array of options for making slabs…
When then glass arrives to our plant, it’s further crushed depending on the slab being made, and mixed with cement, water, and other proprietary ingredients.
Glass comprises 85% of the total product content, so you can expect an extremely durable and gorgeous surface thanks to the big pieces of glass that appear in many of our surfaces.”

You’ve made your house a home, and now it’s time to make your bedroom an oasis. Your master bedroom should be your escape; a place where you can let loose and relax at the end of a long day. This can easily be achieved by warming up the walls with paint, bringing in cozy furniture, and displaying your favorite personal items. Another way you can turn your room into a dreamy retreat is by bringing in interesting flooring that reflects your style. If you’re a carpet person, break away from the typical beige berber and add dimension with a pleasing patterned carpet. Maybe you like wood flooring, check out different options such as Eucalyptus and Koa hardwood. If you live in a warm environment and can get away with a hard surface, try different shaped tile or fun colored stained concrete. Maybe you like the flooring you have but just need a little something to spruce up your space, add a cozy shag rug!
